La motivazione di questo provvedimento del governo di Pechino sarebbe che Wrath of The Lich King, la seconda espansione di WoW, non sarebbe conforme ai regolamenti nazionali (ci domandiamo quali).
Un duro colpo per la casa californiana, che ha grande interesse verso il mercato cinese (i suoi giocatori sono quasi due quinti degli utenti totali di WoW). In oriente il MMORPG Blizzard era già in un momento di difficoltà a causa dei concorrenti locali e dei prodotti occidentali pensati per i gusti asiatici (Aion in primis). A quanto pare questo ulteriore colpo ha causato un crollo in borsa del titolo Activision Blizzard del 4,3%.
